The Moore County Home Builders Association (MCHBA) is pleased to offer scholarship(s) to Moore County high school students who wish to pursue an education in the home building industry and related trades. MCHBA believes a career in the home building industry can be a rewarding endeavor and hopes to encourage area youth to join with us as we create homes in North Carolina.
Each year, MCHBA hosts a golf tournament, which raises funds for the Albert G. Clendenin Awards & Scholarship Program. Selection is based on the applicant's career objective, academic performance, contribution to the community, and personal indicators of success.
Three (3) $1500 scholarships are available:
- The Robert F. Chriscoe / MCHBA Scholarship Award
- The Allan A. McDonald / MCHBA Scholarship Award
- The Eugene Cole / MCHBA Scholarship Award
Award of Honor Scholarships: Three (3) available and each recipient receives a $500 scholarship.
Albert G. Clendenin Awards: Each of the three (3) award recipients will receive an engraved saw.
2010 MCHBA Scholarship Winners:
Three MCHBA grant-in-aid scholarships were awarded, each in the amount of $1500.00 to:
James Cheek, Union Pines High School – – Eugene Cole MCHBA Scholarship Todd Matthew Collins, Union Pines High School – Allan A. McDonald MCHBA Scholarship Josh Aaron Bryant, Union Pines High School – Robert F. Chriscoe MCHBA Scholarship
Three MCHBA Award of Honor Scholarships were awarded, each in the amount of $500.00 to:
Nicholas Brown – Union Pines High School Jonathan Parrish – Union Pines High School Jordan McBryde – Union Pines High School Each scholarship recipient also received an engraved hammer and certificate for their achievement.
The Clendenin Award, named for Albert Clendenin Jr., the father of vocational education in Moore County, was also presented to three deserving students:

The Moore County Home Builders would like to thank Parks Building Supply for their trophy donations.
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
- Awards are for one year only and are not renewable.
- Award funds shall be paid directly to the University/College in which the recipient is enrolled, "in behalf of, and to defray the educational costs of", each recipient. No payments shall be made to the student.
PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES: Criteria used by the Scholarship Committee in the selection of award recipients:
- A letter from each applicant stating the purpose for which the award is needed, the reason(s) for requesting the award, your interest, future plans, special characteristics about you (no more than one (1) page).
- A copy of the applicant's high school transcript which must indicate the applicant's, GPA, SAT, ACT and other measures of academic performance.
- A summary of the applicant's achievements and extra curricular activities including community involvement, recognitions, awards, clubs, church, sports, and other activities involved with.
- At least two (2) letters of recommendation from the applicant's teachers, coaches, principal or principal assistant must accompany the application letter. Letters of recommendation from church and community leaders will also be considered.
- Recipient's major field of study should be related to the home building industry, however, other qualified candidates will be considered. The definition of appropriateness of a field of study shall be the sole prerogative of the Moore County Home Builders Association.
