By meeting together, sharing ideas and mobilizing efforts, NCHBA contributes to the economic growth of each individual member.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS The North Carolina Builder Institute is the educational arm for the NCHBA. The Institute provides year-round classes for the professional builder and associate. At NCHBA’s summer convention, builders and associate members can find a variety of general interest seminars, including topics such as OSHA Regulations and building codes. The new 21st Century Building Expo Conference offers members the opportunity to view new and innovative products for housing and to attend seminars on various aspects of the building industry. Seminars highlight a wide range of topics which would appeal to the builder, associate, remodeler and the sales and marketing professional.
MONITORING REGULATORY AGENCIES AND COUNCILS A host of regulatory agencies—such as the Building Code Council, the Environmental Management Commission, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and OSHA—constantly make decisions and issue regulations affecting today's building industry. NCHBA continuously monitors these agencies and others and testifies on behalf of the building industry, to protect a healthy business climate and affordable housing.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION New professional skilled tradesmen are the life and blood of our industry. Through NCHBA programs, members encourage North Carolina's youth to consider careers in the construction trades. We also assist community colleges, technical institutes and other training facilities in structuring and promoting related vocational programs.

BUILD-PAC NCHBA has developed a nonpartisan political action committee that supports the elected officials and candidates who stand behind our industry. 5. What is the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)?
The National Association of Home Builders (www.NAHB.org) is a Washington D.C. based trade association whose mission is to enhance the climate for housing and the building industry. Chief among NAHB's goals is proving and expanding opportunities for all consumers to have safe, decent, and affordable housing. As "The Voice of America's Housing Industry," NAHB helps promote policies that will keep housing a national priority.
The NAHB federation is made up of more than 800 state and local associations. About one-third of NAHB's 235,000 members are home builders and/or remodelers. The remainder are associates working in closely related fields within the building industry, such as mortgage finance, building products, and services.
Founded in 1942, NAHB has a professional staff of more than 300 in Washington. Its various divisions analyze policy issues, take the industry's story to the public through the media and other outlets, monitor and work toward improving the housing finance system, analyze and forecast economic and consumer trends, and educate, train and disseminate information to members. The association also represents the industry's interests on Capitol Hill and strives to ensure that housing remains a national priority when laws are made and policies are established. NAHB works with federal agencies on regulations affecting the housing industry in areas such as mortgage finance, codes, energy, and the environment.
NAHB's Annual Convention and Exposition, known as the International Builders' Show, is one of the largest building projects showcases in the country, attracting more than 100,000 attendees each year. The 2008 show was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, February 13-16.
NAHB's affiliates include the NAHB National Research Center, which develops, tests and evaluates new materials, methods, standards and equipment to improve the technology and the affordability of America's housing, and the Home Builders Institute, NAHB's workforce development arm, which develops and administers a wide range of educational and job training programs.
